Signbox was delighted to be appointed to deliver an exciting environmental graphics scheme for the extensive children’s ward at NHS Solent Hospital in Southampton. The brief was to create a forward-thinking signage scheme that would be fun, lively, vibrant and which would delight the children who visit or are patients on the ward. At the same time, the entire workplace graphics project had to be delivered using products that were hygienically rated and carry suitable fire retardancy rating to accommodate the demands of this busy healthcare environment.
Signbox manufactured, printed and installed every graphical element of this dynamic environmental graphics project. We chose to work with a hugely innovative digitally-printed wallcovering that has fast become one of Signbox’s most popular products – Papergraphics’ Digimura one-piece wallcovering.
Alongside the creative possibilities, a good quality digital wallcovering, such as those within Papergraphics’ Digimura range, present significant practical advantages to interior designers and specifiers – notably when used as signage schemes for hospitals and within other healthcare sector environments. Products from the Digimura digitally printed wallcovering range are highly specified, scratch-resistant, impact-resistant and can be cleaned without damaging the print, making them suitable for high traffic interiors, such as busy hospital wards and challenging healthcare sector workspaces.
There have been sizeable advancements in digital print technology in recent years making digital wallcoverings a fast and cost-effective option for interior décor. Even when printed, these wallcoverings offer superior durability for healthcare workspaces as they are resistant to marking and scuffing and can be cleaned with a suitable mild detergent. The Digimura 2.1 range also contains an anti-fungal and anti-microbial biocide, adding to the list of robust credentials and making this particular wallcovering perfectly suitable for hospitals.
The Digimura one-piece wallcovering is fire-rated to a standard that includes the actual processed product and environment it is installed within – unlike many other products that carry a fire rating for the uninstalled product and exclude the print and paste. Printed on our Durst printer at our London-based factory using 3.2m wide rolls, all digitally printed wallcoverings and environmental graphics for the scheme were installed across the children’s ward. The total project installation covered a wall surface area of 150 m2 and incorporated stairwells and lifts, treatment rooms, corridors, children’s play areas and academy welcome walls.
The resulting signage scheme at Southampton’s NHS Solent hospital means its young patients now have an exciting and uplifting environment that has transformed the experiences of the children who visit or stay at the hospital. It has also provided an enhanced and more motivational workspace for staff on the ward.
