It’s estimated that there are up to 7,000 different languages in the world (although 90% of these are spoken by less than 100,000 people!). Either way, regardless of one’s mother tongue, there is one form of communication that transcends languages – pictograms. Dating back tens of thousands of years and an early inspiration for languages such as Chinese and Egyptian, these pictorial icons often represent a place or activity to provide universal identification, wayfinding and signage for humans – no matter where they are in the world.
