The year 1908 was a significant one for the London Underground. Not only did the word ‘Underground’ and the iconic roundel symbol first appear on signage, but the first geographical map was also devised to make sense of train travel across the capital. However it is the iconic schematic transit Tube map we know and love today that helps Londoners and tourists negotiate this ever expanding, truly cosmopolitan city, as well adorning merchandise on souvenir stands on nearly every corner of the capital.
