Most of the entrances to Paris’s underground stations feature the distinctive green and yellow ‘Métropolitan’ sign. In classic Art Nouveau style, the sign is held between two curved lampposts to mimic a plant stem and is complemented by the distinctive red Métro masts. The great cultural significance of the Parisian Métropolitan is reflected by other countries’ adoption of ‘Metro’ for their respective underground services.
