BRANDED SIGNAGE, WAYFINDING, LARGE FORMAT IMPACT WALLS AND DIGITAL MANIFESTATION FOR CANCER RESEARCH

Cancer Research UK has recently relocated to the newly developed Angel Building in Islington to bring all London-based staff together in a single central London building and enable the charity to work more efficiently, whilst also saving on its future property operating costs.

As part of the relocation, Cancer Research UK in conjunction with its lead architects HLW International and brand guardians Conran Design Group, appointed Signbox to undertake the design, manufacture and implementation of their signage and manifestation package. The initial design of the project look and feel was guided by Conran Design Group and then went through development with Signbox’s internal design team.  When fully developed, the package included branding signage, way finding signage, large format impact walls and a comprehensive manifestations package.

The branding and manifestation package was based upon Conran’s original designs.  These designs were supplied to Signbox initially as raw artwork and by utilising our in-house skill base, Signbox carried out all technical aspects of developing the artwork and producing samples of the various finishes and looks for client approval, prior to final production and the finished designs. The package was split in to two main manifestation types, the first of the types being applied to client facing themed meeting rooms.  The second part of the package was standard 3M dusted crystal effect DDA compliant and privacy manifestations to the general internal office glazing and internal glazed stair cores.

When it came to the way finding signage, Conran had again drafted the original designs but Signbox was requested to step in and undertake the full development of the package directly for Cancer Research UK.  This included allocating potential sign locations and generating an artwork package to a stage where we could achieve client approval. The final solution utilised for the way finding signage was Signbox’s modular sign system which features extruded interchangeable aluminium profiles and solid feature panels carrying static information. The system was further enhanced by aperture cutting numeral panels and carrying through the onsite quadrant colour scheme to the paint finishes adding an intuitive navigational device to the office floor spaces.

Large format graphics feature throughout the interior as Cancer Research UK used imagery from their many fields of expertise and activities. With public and professional visitors expected within the building, this provides the opportunity to celebrate and highlight the charity’s considerable work in the ongoing battle against cancer.

One of the additional features Signbox implemented for Cancer Research UK was a series of projecting LED illuminated light boxes fabricated in acrylic. These formed a timeline highlighting the advances made in cancer research over the past century.
