Architectural signage can be instrumental in building strong brand recognition and enhancing a company's corporate image. Signbox Limited, one of the most innovative companies of its type in the UK, recognises the essential role that signage plays in conveying a thriving corporate identity.

Projecting the right corporate image is imperative to a company's success and architectural signage is key in this process. Good signage is crucial as it plays a significant part in promoting a company's chosen message and enhancing a company's identity on a national and international level.

Hogg Robinson Group, an award winning international corporate services company, recently implemented their new corporate identity, initially installing architectural signage to their central office in Basingstoke. It was crucial that the signage reflected the international and forward thinking approach adopted by Hogg Robinson Group. Signbox were provided with the HRG corporate identity manual and were asked to produce a range of sign solutions which adhered to the application guidelines and met the objectives of the organisation's new corporate identity.

As the Basingstoke office is home to the Executive Board, it was essential that the signage made a bold statement and conveyed the successful brand of Hogg Robinson Group. The signage was key in representing the prevailing brand therefore it was vital that this representation was applied in a consistent manner across the multiple sites of the organisation.

Katy Cash, Corporate Communications Manager at HRG comments:

"Ensuring the signage in our many offices around the world was updated quickly and effectively was a crucial step in building strong brand recognition with all of our stakeholders. Part of the rebrand process was to ensure that our new vision and position in the global network was communicated effectively, and architectural signage was key in this process."

Signage makes a strong statement about the image of a company, and is fundamental in the communication process between the company and its clients. One of the first points of visual contact between the client and the company is in the reception area so it is crucial that the signage has an instant impact and conveys the successful nature of the business. Signage can influence a potential client so the functionality and appearance must have an instantaneous effect, ensuring that the sign system conveys every aspect of the meanings and concepts involved.

When going through the process of a rebrand, signage provides an instant solution as it can be implemented quickly to change the face of a company. For example, Hogg Robinson Group allowed three months for completion of their rebrand. In this time Signbox successfully implemented the new signage which made an immediate impact for its offices nationally and internationally.

"Feedback from visitors and employees has been that the signage is of a high quality and has brought a new lease of life to the premises. The fact that Signbox were able to assist us in making the transition so quickly has really helped people identify with the new brand. In fact, the UK reception signage has been so well received that it is now being rolled out as a 'template' to HRG offices around the world" says Katy.

The overall reaction to the new brand and signage has been extremely positive for the Hogg Robinson Group. Their new corporate identity has been successfully communicated through architectural signage.

Mark Bartlett, Managing Director of Signbox, concludes:

"Architectural signage plays a dual role of enhancing a company's corporate image whist also injecting a new lease of life to premises via texture, colour and shape. Effective signage should not be obtrusive but have enough visual impact to engage its receiver, deliver information or enhance an identity."
