london aquarium
The £25 million London Aquarium is the first attraction of its kind in the capital and is one of Europe's largest exhibitions of global aquatic life, displayed in over 2 million litres of water.
The London Aquarium combines education, relaxation and entertainment through a multi-sensory voyage of discovery through the rivers, lakes and oceans of the world.
Signbox were selected by County Hall Events, to design a new wayfinding system that would be highly effective in a dark environment, enhance the visitor experience and comply with best practise signs for the visually impaired. This was the perfect project for our patented LED Lumos fixing, a fit & forget device that incorporates a high intensity 1W LED. Using a special side emitting lens, light is bounced around inside the acrylic sign emitting at points of engraving. This included the Braille and tactile lettering, which enhances the information available for the visually impaired.
Prior to manufacture, a consultative process involving a complete set of prototype prints were installed and feedback achieved through a visitor experience survey. Signbox have received several awards for their innovative use of lighting technology for this project.
"the installation of signage within the Aquarium has been a long and arduous process but Signbox have remained enthusiatic from the start and have consistently offered us professional guidance and advice from both a technical and legal perspective - highly recommended"
